Margo Anton Workshops - 2025

I am pleased to announce Margo Anton has approached me to run workshops in Kootingal NSW in 2025. She would like to come around late Jan, Feb or Mar. If you are interested in doing a workshop please send me an email with your name, the workshop you are interested in and your email address and I will contact you closer to finalising workshop dates.

The workshops that may be available are:

1. Spiky, Shardy, Pokey: Shag Rug Mosaics (1 or 2 day) A technique I am well known for using smalti, the effect is a shag rug carpet type appearance
2. Precision Mosaic Jewellery (1 or 2 day) Another technique I’ve been known for for over a decade. I completely supply this course myself so there’s less work on your end
3. Building Better Backgrounds (1 day) This is an extremely useful theory course, covering mosaic opera, laying patterns, andamento, colour, and how to make your background contribute to the message of your mosaic rather that just being fill.
4. Mosaic Textures (2 day, no one day option) Learning how to incorporate texture into your mosaic, from using textured materials and thinking outside the box on how to use standard materials, to using the textures to convey the idea or image. Students work in monochrome. This is not the easiest one to supply materials for, we need a variety of material types in 3-4 colours, but it IS doable particularly as you have a supply shop!
5. Mosaic a Day (2 day, no one day option) A workshop based on what I learned from my Mosaic a Day project, which I started 15 years ago. Students create 2 mixed media mosaics over the course of the 2 days, pushing past creative blocks and learning to think about the process of making a mosaic in a new way.
6. Filati Micromosaic (1 or 2 day) Using filati to create micromosaic jewelry, small mosaics, and more. No pulling of filati will be done (again, I completely supply this one)

Information about Margo Anton...

Margo has been working as a professional mosaic artist and mosaic educator for almost two decades, creating fine art mosaics, mosaic jewellery, and teaching classes.  She has exhibited art work in her native Canada, the USA, Italy, Ireland, Australia, and France. When not creating mosaics and mosaic jewellery, she shares her knowledge and love of the mosaic medium by teaching, from classes in Canada, to workshops and artist residencies abroad. In 2023, she launched her Santorini Mosaic Workshops in Greece, where she resides part time. She is particularly known for unique style of high end mosaic jewellery and for creating heavily textured “shag rug” mosaics.  She lives a semi nomadic lifestyle, splitting her time between several locations globally each year. Her work can be seen here.
